Water damage public adjuster

When Do You Need a Water Damage Public Adjuster?

A disaster leading to water damages can happen anytime, anywhere. Generally, the events are sudden and accidental. Indeed, water damages can result from frozen pipe leaks, a pipe burst, broken pipes, leaks from washing machines and heavy rain and windstorms. The question for homeowners is when do you need to hire a water damage public adjuster?

If water damage has hit your home or business, the first thing you must do is remove any water. However, if possible, take pictures of the standing water, if any. Additionally, take pictures of your personal property that was damaged and couldn’t be repaired.

Pull up wet carpeting. Sticking a blower in an up-lifted corner of carpet will not get the job done if the padding is soaked. Therefore, get rid of the carpeting so the floor beneath the carpeting can dry out.

However, if there is standing water in your basement or elsewhere in the house, you may need a professional water damage restoration company. After the standing water is removed, all surfaces which the water touched have to be completely dried to prevent mold growth. Proper disinfectant products need to be applied to prevent any bacteria, fungi, or mildew from causing further damage.

Additionally, all furniture and other personal property that water touched should be placed somewhere to dry. If you cannot repair some of your personal property, take pictures before disposing the property.

If you have to rent or purchase a wet/dry vacuum, heavy rubber boots, fans, etc., keep the receipts. Your homeowners’ insurance will pay for water damage repairs and the costs to cleanup your home.

Have You Heard of a Black Water Loss?

A black water loss results from sewage or other chemical toxins in the water invaded your home or business.

There may be life, health and safety issues that need to be addressed when cleaning up a black water loss. Certainly, if you are facing a black water loss, you will need the services of a water damage restoration company that is familiar with black water losses.

Are You Covered When Flooding Causes Water Damages?

Standard homeowners’ insurance policies do not cover water damages from floods. Rather, people who live in flood-prone areas must purchase flood insurance through the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).

In 1968, the federal government enacted a law that set up the NFIP

to help residents and commercial property owners who purchased a flood policy.

The Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) runs the NFIP.

Therefore, if you live in a flood-prone area, apply for FEMA flood insurance with the private insurance companies that offer flood insurance. As a result, if a flood damages your home or business, they can reimburse you for covered flood damage.

Consider Hiring a Water Damage Public Adjuster

Sounds complicated and time-consuming, doesn’t it? Well, it is. The claims process for water damage insurance claims involves several moving parts. First, if a hurricane or tornado cause the water damage over a large area, insurance companies are going to be flooded with water damage claims.

Consequently, it may take days or weeks before an insurance adjuster from your carrier inspects your property damage.

As you can see from the above, you can’t wait for the insurance company adjuster to show up. You have to immediately start cleaning up after water damages your property. For example, you have to remove standing water, wet carpets, etc., as soon as you can.

Consider hiring a public adjuster to guide you through this process. How you handle a water loss in the first 24 hours can be critical in the outcome of your property damage claim.

Unlike other claims adjusters, public adjusters work only for homeowners and business owners who file property damage claims with their insurance carrier. Public adjusters can dedicate his/her time to your specific claim so you receive everything to which you are entitled.
