A Public Adjuster Can Negotiate Your Claim

A Public Adjuster Can Negotiate Your Property Damage Claim

If your home or business suffered property damage in a storm or other event, this may be the first time you will file a property damage claim with your business or homeowner’s insurance company. For instance, for a small claim, you may want to deal directly with the insurance company adjuster and the company rep. However, for large claims, you may want to hire a public adjuster. A public insurance adjuster can expedite the filing of a claim and assist you during the claim process. In addition, a public adjuster can negotiate your property damage claim, probably better than you.

Public Insurance Adjusters Can Negotiate Your Insurance Claim Make More Money

Insurance Company Adjuster vs. Independent Adjuster vs. Public Insurance Adjuster-What is the Difference?

When the property of an insured person or business is damaged, the insurance company will send an insurance adjuster to inspect the damaged property. As a result, adjusters are trained to inspect the damaged property to determine the repair or replacement costs. For instance, they know the local building codes and what materials contractors will use in rebuilding your home.

In addition, in cases of water damage, they find out what caused the problem and what will have to be done to repair the damaged property. Moreover, in a fire damage claim, they know to look for soot, water damage from putting out the fire, etc.

Company Adjusters

Usually, insurance companies use two types of adjusters. First, insurance company adjusters which work directly under the carrier. Consequently, they are paid a salary by the carrier as an employee.

Independent Adjusters

On the other hand, “independent” insurance adjusters are not employees of the insurance carrier. Rather, they either work for themselves or work for an independent insurance adjuster firm.

The insurance company may use independent adjusters for large or complicated damage claims. Or they may use them to help the company adjusters in case of a natural disaster spread over a large area.

However, make no mistake about it-they work for the insurance company. In fact, they may work for several insurance companies. And they are paid a fee based on the amount of the settlement by the insurance company.

In short, independent adjusters only work for insurance carriers-never for the owners of damaged property.

Public Insurance Adjusters

Conversely, public insurance adjusters only work for the owners of the damaged property. To illustrate, if you file a property damage claim with your carrier, the carrier and the company’s adjuster will try to settle your claim for as low as they can. Nevertheless, it does not mean that they are trying to cheat you; rather, it just means they will try to save the insurance company as much money as they can.

Therefore, using a public insurance adjuster levels the playing field for the insured.

What Does a Public Insurance Adjuster Do?

A public adjuster will know the details of your insurance policy. He will know what is covered by the policy and what is not. Moreover, he will know what the policy limits are.

For instance, there will be limits involving claims for additional living expenses. He will also know what you can claim for and how much.

In addition, there are limits regarding personal property losses such as jewelry, artwork, antiques, etc. He can let you know how much the carrier will pay for the loss of or damage to those items.

A public adjuster will complete a complete inspection of your damaged property. He knows how buildings are built. And, he knows the damage that fire and water can do to a home or building. As a result, he will look for damage in places you did not think of.

A public insurance adjuster is your advocate. He can expedite the claims process. Furthermore, he is not afraid to make a phone call to the company’s adjuster to speed the process up. He knows the type of information the insurance company wants during the claims process. Therefore, he will help you collect that information.

The information, such as photos of damaged property, receipts for the purchase of damaged items, etc., will support your claim and make the claims process go smoother and faster.

Insurance companies use estimator software to evaluate claims. Public insurance adjusters have access to the same software. However, your public adjuster goes beyond a software “one size fits all” program. He will show the insurance company why your claim is worth the value that you and the adjuster put on it.

Your Adjuster Can Negotiate Your Property Damage Claim Settlement for You

You can bring a public adjuster into the claims process at any point. You can get an adjuster immediately after the loss. He can be at your property when the insurance company adjuster visits. He can help you prepare and file the damage claim with your insurance company.

You can also hire a public insurance adjuster after the insurance company makes a settlement offer. You may feel the offer is too low. Perhaps the insurance company denied coverage for parts of your claim.
In any event, a public adjuster can jump in to help. Once the public adjuster has submitted his report to the insurance carrier, he can negotiate a settlement on your behalf.

Let’s face it, most people have little experience negotiating with professional people over large ticket items, such as repairing a roof, replacing expensive carpeting and woodwork or rebuilding a house with a large tree resting on it.

But public adjusters do. In fact, they do it often. Probably several times a week.
In short, the public adjuster will know what is in your insurance policy. He will have a complete understanding of the damage to your property.

He will also know what it will cost to repair or replace your property.
Be your advocate in discussions with your insurance company.
He will make sure you get the insurance settlement you are due.
